Medical Benefits

As aforementioned, cock rings are incredible sex toys for enhancing your erection. By holding the blood in the penis, stopping it from becoming flaccid, it enlarges the penis and can make it stronger, more rigid, and even longer-lasting. About 52% will experience some form of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in their lives, and cock rings are a great alternative to medicinal remedies such as viagra for staying hard.

Additionally, it can benefit those who experience Premature Ejaculation (PE) – which happens to about a third of people at some point in their lives. When worn over the balls as well as the cock, ejaculation can be delayed as the testicles are restricted from rising to allow for release.

Purely Pleasure

Pleasure also plays an important role when exploring cock rings. As there is an increase of blood flow inside of the penis, the nerve endings are more sensitive and the experience heightened.

Cock rings can be worn during sex with a partner, during hand play, oral sex, vaginal sex and anal sex, to add to the pleasure of both involved. But it also can be just as fun to wear a cock ring during masturbation. It’s highly recommended that you explore your body solo, mostly for the pleasure benefits, but also so you can communicate what you like to your partner with confidence.

  1. It will prevent orgasm. It shouldn’t prevent orgasm, but can indeed delay it. If you struggle to ejaculate with a cock ring on, it may just be too tight.
  2. It will break the skin. This shouldn’t happen, but if you are concerned, use lube to avoid friction on your skin.
  3. It will get stuck. What goes on must, come off. Again, with a bit of lube, the cock ring should slip off easily. If your pickle really is in a pickle, you can snip off silicone toys, but metal may need a trip to A&E.
  4. Your cock will fall off, or become damaged. This is very unlikely, especially if you follow the advice below – and don’t use them for extended periods of time without a break (20 minutes ish).

Firstly, let’s take a look at the different materials found in the various cock rings.

Stretchy silicone can be used to stretch over the penis. There are also adjustable ‘bow-tie’ style cock rings. These are good for exploring cock and ball restriction.

Metal ones are, of course, non-adjustable, but do offer a heavy, weighted feel and unyielding constriction for a more intense experience.

There are also various types of vibrating cock rings. The most common is the couples ring that is designed with a vibrating motor situated on the top, typically used for clitoral stimulation during penis-in-vagina sex. These vibrations can also offer pleasure during penetrative anal sex, vibrating the perineum. Vibrating cock rings can also be worn on dildos and strap-ons.

Cock rings can also provide sensation to the wearer by sending vibrations through the penis. As there are erogenous spots on the under shaft of the penis, some cockrings place vibrating motors at different points to target those.

Taking that one step further, adding more technology into the mix, smart cock rings are able to be controlled locally and long distance via a smart device.

  1. Find the right size for you. Get your measurements correct, and make sure there’s a snug fit – but not too tight that it causes discomfort.
  2. You can place a cock ring on a flaccid or erect penis, but the best is if you are semi-hard. This gives you room to grow while wearing it, and prevents it from falling off.
  3. Don’t wear for longer than 20 mins whilst hard. This is essential – otherwise you can cause long lasting damage to your tissue and nerve endings.
  4. Lube is your friend (always and forever). Find the right lube for your cock ring though to avoid damaging the material (rule of thumb: no silicone-based lube with silicone-based toys). Ideally you want to use a small amount for it to be pleasurable and comfortable, but not too much that the cock ring will slip off.
  5. Practice safe sex with a cock ring. Ideally, place the condom on first and the cock ring over the top.
  6. Trim your pubic hair, that is if you want to avoid getting them caught or ripped out.
  7. Don’t use one if you have a blood condition.
  8. Clean before and after every use. This might seem excessive, but eliminating dust and bacteria will reduce the possibility of infection – and it’s just hygienic of course!
  9. Take it off if any discomfort, numbness, or discolouration occurs.

As you would for any special ring, take the time to find the right cock ring to commit to. Are you using it for the medical benefits, pleasure or both? Understanding what type of experience you want will help you decide between materials and the level of technology. Just be sure to follow the safety tips to make it super safe and pleasurable!
